Abstract
CASPA Services Ltd NDIS Program - Assisting foster carers & community members access NDIS support services for children with disabilities or acute chronic health conditions in care
CASPA Services Ltd (CASPA) has been a long standing provider of Out of Home Care (OoHC) programs and in 2018 implemented an NDIS program providing disability services to participants within the communities we work.
Since then, our program has changed and evolved to offer more services and streamline our supports.
Over time, large gaps in NDIS knowledge became apparent within our OoHC programs as well as within the community. Our team has been working closely with agency staff, foster carers and members of the community to gain their insight and feedback into the supports and information they need to access the NDIS and provide appropriate and quality care to children and young people with disabilities or acute/chronic health conditions.
Overwhelmingly, the feedback from Caseworkers, Foster Carers and community members has been that the NDIS is complex, processes rigorous and obtaining a NDIS Plan can feel impossible and overwhelming.
CASPA has used this feedback to develop and implement targeted training for staff and foster carers and a specialised position targeting members of the community who have children that are eligible for NDIS supports but haven’t been able to navigate the NDIS system to secure a plan.
Our presentation will highlight the feedback on the challenges and barriers preventing adequate NDIS supports being implemented in the care environment and what CASPA has done to help participants and families overcome these issues and secure disability services that provide the quality care their children deserve.
