Speaker Bio
Julie Hourigan-Ruse is the Chief Executive Officer of Fams. As the peak body, Fams knows that children are kept safe by quality services which help kids and families where they need it. Fams makes this possible by advocating for better public policy, advising how to achieve sustainable and measurable outcomes and acting to help vulnerable children, young people, families and communities.
Julie is passionate about data and the data is the kids. The evidence highlights that every community and every circumstance is different and this is why Fams are advocating that governments must respond based on need and not a “one size fits all” approach, to ensure the most cost effective, long term outcomes for those kids experiencing vulnerability in our communities.
Julie maintains her legal practising certificate and has a Masters in Law (Human Rights and Social Justice). She has extensive experience in government and corporate roles and has been a NSW Government appointed member of the Housing Appeals Committee since 2010 and a Presiding Chair since July 2013.
